Our History
When Vice Chancellor of Administration C. Michael Webster and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Alumni and Constituent Relations Kyle Hoffman noticed the overwhelming crowd response to the pipers performing at graduation, campus leaders started a discussion that led to the formation of the University of California Riverside Pipe Band. Prior to this, pipers had been hired from other bands to perform at campus events, but the University's move to Division I athletics meant that UCR needed a band of its own. This band would carry on campus traditions while serving as ambassadors of UCR at community events.

In the year 2000, the UCR Pipe Band was born, as Mike Terry responded to the University's challenge to bring together a group of talented musicians from all over Southern California to form the beginnings of what would become an award-winning performance and competition band.
